Trailer Test FAQ

What is a (B + E) certification?

It is a special driver's license designation that confirms your ability to drive with a trailer.

Why do I need one?

UK law requires you to have a special category on your driver's license if you want to tow heavy trailers. Having trailer training keeps you safe, and being officially certified makes you legally compliant.

What does the test involve?

First, your examiner will assess your skills based on the lorry driving test. Next, you'll move on to a variety of other tasks, including answering vehicle safety questions, completing an off-road reverse manoeuvre, uncoupling the trailer, and recoupling it too.

How long will it take?

The test will take about an hour and a half. Your pre-test training time will vary depending on how quickly you learn.
